Day 6, Saturday, Oct 10
All six of us spent the day exploring the neighborhood of Montmartre.
I love google maps - it was such a helpful tool when planning the trip - looking up addresses to see what places were close together, estimating travel time between sites, and then actually getting us where we wanted to go. Using my phone maps was SO much easier than using a guidebook (and more lightweight!) This blurry map shows our apartment, very centrally located, and the area encompassed by the Montmartre neighborhood......
It's a delightful, artsy neighborhood anchored by the stunning church Sacre Coeur. Featured in many skyline pics of Paris, this large white church dominates the hillside north of the city.
Built in a white travertine, the building's stone never needs cleaning because of a chemical reaction to water when it rains. Cool, huh?
This ceiling is one of the largest mosaics in the world. Gorgeous, right?
